Why you need to have a survival emergency toilet plan, just in case.

Where do you go in a survival situation? That question isn't talking about direction or destination, it's talking about where and how do you go to the bathroom in a disaster situation.

Where do you go poo when the toilet in your house or trailer isn't working? You really can't go outside and crouch behind the bushes in your yard.

What Would Cause an Emergency Toilet Situation

Loss of Power

If the power goes out in your town or city, there's no power to pump the water. That means sooner or later you won't be getting any water in your home. No water = no flushing = a gross smelly mess.

Toilets will back up, and the next thing will be your tub and sinks filling up with sewage. As soon as that happens you will probably have to leave your home.

Frozen Pipes Cause Emergency Toilet Situation

Right now, in the midst of the Texas Snovid21, power is out all over the state. Without power, there's no heat as most homes require electricity to heat their homes.

This has resulted in pipes freezing in houses and apartments all over. In many of those cases, the pipes then burst, leaving a disaster as water floods and ruins everything.

Even if the pipes don't freeze, how are you supposed to flush the toilet if there's no water?

I can guarantee that all over the state toilets are filling up to almost overflowing, as most people have no idea what to do in such a situation.

Fortunately, with a little knowledge and some planning, you do not have to be left with an overflowing toilet and afraid to drink anything because you don't know if the next time you go will be when the overflow occurs

Emergency Toilet Options

Double Trash Bag Toilet

While I used to be prepared for emergency toilet situations, changes in circumstances have seen me without most of my former preps. So when the Snovid21 happened and the pipes in my RV froze, I began to panic. What was I going to do when I had to go?

Then I saw something and like a lightbulb, I remembered one of the most basic types of emergency survival toilets. The double trash bag in a 5-gallon bucket toilet.

So that's what I devised, using some small 8-gallon trash bags, doubled. It works, but I can tell you that having a toilet rim on top would be so much more comfortable.

Two-Piece Camping Toilet

Years ago, when I lived in a truck camper, this was what we had for a toilet. When the bottom chamber was full, you simply detached the pot from the collection chamber, carried the chamber to a toilet and dumped it. It was comfortable, and pretty convenient. You could filled the fresh water chamber with water and put toilet chemical  into the collection chamber to control odors. Then manually pump water into the bowl before doing your business, to help with the flush when you were done.

Hint: Dispose of toilet paper in a separate trash container, otherwise you'll be dumping that holding tank way too often.

The 5.3 gallon holding tank is detachable and includes a sealing slide valve to lock in odors and protect against leakage. It includes two side latches to secure the tank to the toilet and a carrying handle for easy transport. The toilet employs an easy to use bellow type flush and pull slide valve for easy flushing. The toilet measures 15.5"H x 14"W x 16"D. It weighs 10.8 lbs empty and approximately 32 pounds when full.

More Emergency Toilet Acquisitions

Back when I had my little survival homestead, I did a lot of prepping acquisitions at garage and estate sales. At one time, I had three different emergency toilets in my storage shed for just in case. Unfortunately, when I lost my place, I ended up getting rid of most of my preps. I thought I'd save one of those emergency camping toilets, but somehow it has disappeared in the last five years.

So come spring and summer, I'll be hitting garage sales again, and if I don't find one, then before next winter I will get one of those two-piece toilets.
