The End of The World as We Know it can refer to a variety of mega disasters

If you are new to preparedness, and have been wandering about online, visiting various survival preparedness sites and groups, chances are you have come across the acronym “TEOTWAWKI”. “The end of the world as we know it” is a common phrase among those who have been involved with disaster and survival preparedness for any length of time.

TEOTWAWKI

mushroomcloudHowever what kind of situation would be described as a TEOTWAWKI?

Most of the experts in survival preparedness agree that "the end of the world as we know it" refers to situations that would forever change society and threaten the survival of mankind.

volcano

Some of the most common scenarios are a nuclear war, with several detonations in the United States. While some of the disaster scenarios seem unlikely, they are however on the list of deadly disasters that would forever change the world: a mega volcano eruption (such as the Yellowstone caldera); an asteroid impact; a worldwide pandemic, etc.

WTSHTF - "When The Stuff Hits The Fan"

Other smaller disasters might be considered to fall under the category of WTSHTF (when the “stuff” hits the fan). That might involve any number of scenarios, including: economic collapse, peak oil, wide-spread famine, martial law, as well as a number of natural disasters if they were wide-spread or occurred simultaneously around the country.

However, as you can see, scenarios that fall under WTSHTF could also be a end of the world event depending on its magnitude and severity. Most survivalists agree that being prepared for the absolute worst will insure that you are able to survive any type of lesser event.

In the United States many people are already experiencing a complete change from everything they have ever known.

With massive housing foreclosures and continued layoffs, plus the rising prices of basic goods, future uncertaintity creates an unprecedented movement toward survival preparation.
