Do you know what to do? Take the short survival quiz

A survival quiz will help you consider survival skills or preparations that might be needed if faced with a survival situation. Food, shelter and the ability to make fire for example are things generally thought of as common survival skills. There are many other things that everyone should consider when making any plans for overcoming any emergency.

These survival quiz questions are based on the premise that you are with a group of people shortly after a major disaster. The grocery stores are closed, the hospitals are no longer taking patients and emergency rescue services are nowhere to be found.

A woman who is 7 months pregnant delivers a baby. What should you do?

Premature babies require warmth. They should never get cold. Any expenditure of energy uses up valuable calories needed to grow stronger. Using a piece of soft cloth, you can fashion a sling. The infant can then be carried next to the mother’s skin. Her body temperature will help her infant stay warmer. This will also allow the infant to nurse on demand. This will improve the survival odds.

What is the least amount of calories that a person must eat in order to survive?

The lowest caloric intake required for a person to stay alive is around 1000 calories per day. Unfortunately, eating only 1000 calories per day will not provide you with the energy needed to work, walk or forage for more food. 1200 to 1500 calories per day will prevent you from becoming lethargic and in most cases allow your mind to function properly. Taking in 1500 to 1800 calories a day will allow you to function normally.

What is the least amount of water required to survive?

The human body is composed of mostly of water. You can loose about 15% of your overall fluids before your body would start to shut down; normal stress, physical exertion and sweating use the fluids and electrolytes in your body. A person who consumes less than a half a gallon of water a day risks developing dehydration. Infants, children and the elderly are at greater risk for developing dehydration. Vomiting, diarrhea and extreme heat can cause dehydration in a few hours.

A disaster has struck your area leaving you without any outside help, and someone has died. What do you do?

When a sudden and devastating disaster strikes, people die. All too often, mortal injuries are unavoidable and others die from injuries that don’t treated soon enough. The human body begins to decay immediately after death. Temporary body bags can be made with two large garbage bags and duct tape. Placing one bag over the top half and the other over the lower half you place the duct tape around where the two bags meet.

Before placing the body inside check for identification, as it will be important to be able to identify these individuals later. Keeping small Ziploc bags with you will allow you to place their identification safely in the bag with the body. If you do not find any identification, try to locate someone who does. Any information kept with the body will help rescue personnel later.

This survival quiz asked some difficult questions. The goal was to ease you into asking your own difficult questions. This will not be an easy task. Some of these questions will be hard emotionally. It is best to think about them now, rather than when you are faced with an unexpected disaster situation.
