Survival Groups

The world leader in preparedness
Be prepared BEFORE the flood, fire, earthquake, emergency, or terrorist attack.

Only a fool believes he can survive all alone
Survival groups are a great way to connect with others if you are interested in survival preparedness. For many people, they are the only person they know who is prepping, and that can be a lonely feeling. For these people, joining one or more of the many survival forums or groups reassures them that they are not crazy and are in fact showing wisdom by preparing for an uncertain future.

The next question is “How do I find these survival groups?” After all, when you do a search in Yahoo Groups alone you will get an amazing number of hits. For example, using the word ‘survival’ gets 3500+ hits on Yahoo, ‘survivalists’ gets 930 hits and ‘preparedness’ 1025. You read their group description and it helps, but which group should you join?

Here is a brief description of the more popular groups:

Survival Homestead
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/survivalhomestead/
This group links two concepts well, homesteading and survival, and “how survival preparedness can be accomplished on a budget”. Members are encouraged to share what they’ve learned. Discussions on politics, religion and conspiracy theories are not allowed and discussions on “current events are limited to prep-related solutions”

Misc Survivalism Moderated
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/misc_survivalism_moderated/
It has the largest number of members at over 4000 and can be a HIGH volume list. The moderated part comes from most all of the messages being checked by a moderator before being sent on to the list. In general, the group covers most all aspects of being prepared.

This group also has a blog, Daily Survival Blog and a sister group, MSD http://groups.yahoo.com/group/misc_survivalism_discussion for off topic discussions.

Prepared Survivalists Unite 2
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/preparedsurvivalistsunite2/
Not as many members or posts, but still a high volume list. It also covers many broad areas of being prepared and has a web site that has more information. http://www.survivalistssite.com

None of these groups allow for political, conspiracy or religious discussions due to how heated these can get.

How to Survivalist Club
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/howtosurvivalistclub/
The owner shares a lot of info and links on how be get more prepared. He also understands and states, “Like most articles I post, they are to be taken with a grain of salt. I don't write the articles but hope someone can use parts of the article to glean some useful information from”. Not as high volume list, but good information.

Survival Creed
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SurvivalCreed/
This is a well-run group and as stated on their home page focuses “on current events and how they are affecting us” and on “whether to stay (hunker down) or go (bug out) in the event of a disaster”. They discuss food, guns and how to encourage your spouse to prepare.

You might need to be a bit creative to find the survival groups that will fit your needs. So try a few out and see which ones suit you the best. Take the information you find, apply it to your unique situation and go from there. Remember that being prepared is a process and a goal. No one is ever totally prepared for every situation.

What is the Best Way to Build a Survival Team
