A308 caliber rifle is an idea gun for deer and humans and ammo is easily found. Some or most magnum large caliber rifles are expensive and ammo is expensive and not so readily available. There are trade offs for both large and popular calibers. A 308 is not an expensive gun along with the ammo; is readily and easy to find or barter for. A large caliber magnum weapon does have more knock-down and better penetration,but if the shot is placed correctly, a308 can take down a bear with ease. Bottom line, if you are set on a large caliber magnum rifle,buy lots of ammo (5000 rounds) and probably a second gun in the event the first fails.
