Gunnery Seregeant USMC Retired/Deputy Sheriff Florida Retired
by Gary Mosier
(Middleburg, Fl. USA)
To start I attend a few survival, SERE, and training schools conducted throughout the world over a 22 year career. The number one weapon mentioned in any survival situation is your mind. I also spent 8 years working as a Deputy Sheriff in Florida, so I have some understanding of the law involving self-defense and survival...
OK the things I carry are:
2 knifes, One fixed blade and one folding blade knife. My fixed blade knife is the Number (1) Randall(combat knife) with a 6" or 8" blade, made here in Florida. My folding knife is a typical 3 1/2" folding blade Gerber knife that I use for most camp chores. I have special knifes for hunting (Field Dressing and Skinning).
The Weapon I carry most is a 12 gauge Mossberg 935 pump shotgun with a 18 1/2" barrel. It has the range (100 yard + with slug) and can put down any animal in North America. It has different ammo for birds up to Elk. I use it with a folding handle so that I can attach it to my pack.
The close use weapon I use is a Glock auto in .40 S&W. It has both the hitting power needed and the ability not to take your arm off while shooting it.
The things I do not carry are; pepper spray, a tazer gun, or a baton.
If I have to use a weapon in self defense or in survival mode, I want the target down quick.
