Necessary Essential Survival Gear to Pack

Every pack should have a map of the area that is to be travelled or of a local area map that can be used for natural disaster emergencies. A map is valuable because it can help identify escape routes, reveal obstacles that should be avoided, and if you get lost they provide information on where to go. While a GPS device can accomplish this same feat, a map can provide more information regarding terrain. A compass should always be included in the pack no matter if a survivor is using a map or a GPS.

Always remember to bring a flashlight or headlamp in your backpack. Some trips that may only be intended for a few hours can turn into an all night outing due to an injury or getting lost. Having light available can help with an array of things such as gathering fire-burning materials or signaling for rescuers. Nitro-Pak has several flashlights, some do require batteries and others have power when shaken. They also carry headlamps and LED flashlights.

Food and water rank high on the list of essential survival gear items. Even if a trip is scheduled for a few hours, be sure to bring a full day’s supply of both food and water. Calories from food help prevent hypothermia or exhaustion and the energy that very well may save your life. Since carrying all these items can be bulky consider the option of dehydrated or freeze-dried food.

Having clean water can also give a feeling of confidence and can allow for clear thought and prevent a feeling of panic. Water is more important than food, you can live without food for several days but you cannot survive without an adequate supply of water. Make sure you carry a water-purifying water bottle or water filter in your backpack before setting of into the wilderness. Water Filters and Emergency Water Kits

Bring an extra set of clothing. The clothes that are being worn may become wet from snow, sweat, rain or falling into water. Extra clothing can also protect against insects or even as a substitute for proper bedding. Part of the pack should include rain gear, sunscreen, first aid kit, a good survival knife and waterproof matches. Nitro-Pak has a comprehensive collection of essential survival gear.
