Repurposing 2 Liter Bottles for Food Storage

Two liter soda bottles make great storage containers for dried food ingredients. Wash the soda out and let the bottle dry thoroughly inside. You don't want any moisture.

When ready, simply pour in rice, macaroni pasta, oatmeal, flour, sugar, cornmeal, salt and any other small-sized dried food. Leave two inches of headroom, and screw on the lid.

Next squeeze the sides of the bottle, and unscrew the lid just enough so that you can hear the air whoosh out, forced by squeezing the bottle. This creates a vacuum in the bottle.

You can also place a clove of garlic on top. This will also create a vacuum, it just takes a bit longer. Of course, you might not want to put a clove of garlic in the oatmeal or sugar!

The full bottles can be labeled and then stored out of direct sunlight.

Try it! This is a great way to reuse those 2 Liter Bottles for your survival food preps.

Also...if you have the clear 1-liter soda bottles you can use them to purify water using the power of the sun. This method is called SODIS and could be a lifesaver.
